absurdity pays a visit to washington

The following comes from this article that appeared today on washingtonpost.com:

"The Senate today... overwhelmingly approved the $151 billion shot in the arm to the U.S. economy... The legislation would provide $600 payments for individuals... In all, the tax checks will cost the Treasury $105.7 billion, all of it added to the budget deficit."

It's obviously an election year when something this idiotic gets through both houses of Congress in just over a week. My instant poll of the two guys sitting on either side of me shows that 100% of Americans strongly disapprove of this measure.

But it's OK. I'm going to Ireland over Spring Break, and I need some extra travel cash, and I'm sure their economy will appreciate some of Uncle Sam's chump change. Or maybe I'll just get rid of some of my bad credit. Or save it. Or put it towards OPEC's major export. But... I probably won't spend it.
